Time of emergence of impacts of climate change on groundwater levels in sub-Saharan Africa

چکیده
The impacts of climate change on groundwater are poorly constrained, particularly in regions such as sub-Saharan Africa where global circulation models (GCMs) project different directions precipitation change. Moreover, the timing when can be differentiated from natural variability has not been quantified. Here, for first time, we estimate time emergence (ToE) levels, using series eight sites across Burkina Faso, West Africa. We apply output data historical and RCP8.5 runs CMIP5 GCMs to lumped each site, ToE by calculating signal noise ratios site model. show that addition inconsistent direction GCMs, there is inconsistency signals future drying GCMs. Across sites, between 5 (4) 13 (13) a possible 23 associated with decreases (increases) levels. producing levels (i.e. drying) highly variable (across all median = 2049, interquartile range 48 years). For increases wetting), appears occur earlier less 2011, 11 These results underline need development no-regrets adaptation measures parallel reductions GCM uncertainty.

This commentary follows up on an editorial by Eyal and colleagues in which these authors discuss the implications of the emergence of non-physician clinicians (NPCs) on the health labour market for the education of medical doctors. We generally agree with those authors and we want to stress the importance of clarifying the terminology to describe these practitioners and of defining more formall...

Sub-Saharan Africa is the least urbanized region in the world. Only 39.1% of the region’s population lives in cities.1 However, the region’s urban population is projected to more than double to 760 million by 2030.1 The rate of urbanizat...
